Dressing My Postpartum Body

April 25, 2018 by aalexander 16 Comments

I’m slowly coming to grips with the fact that some of my pre-baby clothes are just not going to fit the way they used to. My weight has shifted to different parts of my body making the fit of my clothes a little different than what I am used to. Jeans that used to slide on with ease now require a little…patience. For the most part when I’m around the house I like to wear leggings and a T-shirt. While I am very comfortable in what now seems to be my mommy uniform now a days, I still like to dress up when I go out so that I can feel more like myself.

I don’t really want my sense of style to change now that I’m a mom. I think l there is a huge misconception that one has to dress and/or look a certain way once they become a mother. For some people once Motherhood hits they feel that they have to dress the part. The part of mom normally includes a big tee shirt, ill fitted jeans, and outdated sneakers. Now don’t get me wrong, some days I completely understand how challenging it can be to get mom and baby out the door. Most days I am lucky to make it out in one piece. I still however try to take time to put together nice outfits for me to wear because at the end of the day who says that moms can’t be stylish?

My husband recently took me out to a comedy show and I wanted to put together a look in which I would feel comfortable and confidant. After trying on several outfits that were not to my liking I started to get a little down about my size. I quickly snapped out of that rut as I reminded myself that I literally just had a little human being 14 weeks ago. It’s really easy to be hard on yourself after having a baby but what I am learning is that you have to give yourself grace. Remember that it took you 9 months to grow this beautiful baby, and so you may not just bounce right back to that pre-baby body immediately and that’s okay. Once I got over my feelings I really started to think about my current shape and what I feel I look good in. I went through every inch of my closet and finally found an outfit for our night out on the town which was both stylish and comfortable, I’d say that’s a win-win.

Thrifted Item Of The Day

April 16, 2018 by aalexander 2 Comments

Thrifting is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get…..

I am what you would call a self-proclaimed “thrift-aholic”. Thrift shopping is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I have found that it’s extremely therapeutic for me. I get a rush from the beauty of the unknown. The thrill of thrift stores is that there is always something new. At thrift stores, their selection changes weekly, if not daily so you never know what new and fabulous thing awaits you.

Contrary to popular belief, being fashionable doesn’t always have to come with a huge price tag (thank goodness). The best part about thrifting shopping is that it gives you the opportunity to juice up your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Some of my favorite outfits have come from the thrift store. Shopping second hand gives me the opportunity to think outside of the box when it comes to my own fashion. Personally I love the idea of mixing something old with something new to create something hot!!!! Ok enough about my love affair with thrifting…. let’s get to the point of this post…

I found these adorable blue suede sandals made by Zara at my local Goodwill for $6, they retail for about $30. I’m so happy that I picked them up because they have brought life to a few of my looks. Since having the baby I haven’t been able to hit up my favorite thrift stores as frequent as I want but now that I am feeling more comfortable taking her out in public we will begin her thrifty girl training lol got to start em early!!!
